From Spectators to Spect-actors: using forum theatre to explore global citizenship Kent and the Wider World

A resource booklet, which introduces teachers and others to the concepts of global citizenship and forum theatre. It includes step-by-step session plans with information on getting started, warm-up games, exercises and activities. Covering key stages 2-4, the booklet sets out the key elements of global citizenship, showing both progression and differentiation. The aim of forum theatre is to change the spectator from a passive to an active participant. Forum theatre is not solely for drama teachers. The technique can be adapted and used for any subject and for whole school assemblies.

Reel Lives

This DVD is great fun! It introduces two young people living in Sierra Leone, and encourages children to see similarities and differences with their own lives. The DVD includes several short clips about school life, food and clothes in Sierra Leone, as well as music clips and images. There is also a quiz about different food, and lots of images that can be printed out. A teacher’s booklet accompanies the DVD with ideas for classroom activities relating to each of the video clips. The teaching activities are very flexible and allow for different primary age abilities. The DVD is well laid out and easy to use, and altogether the resource is full of energy.

The games develop motor and language skills, help teach the importance of taking turns and give practice of song and rhythm.
